At approximately 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Wilton Police Department was notified of the social media post involving a possible school threat.
The picture of the post included a caption that read “Don’t come to school Monday.”
Information received from both the New Canaan Police Department and the Facebook Law Enforcement Response Team identified a residence in the Town of Wilton that the post originated from, Wilton Police said.
Members of the department’s patrol division immediately responded to the home and made contact with the residents, none of whom were identified as the juvenile male depicted in the social media post.
An investigation revealed that the juvenile male in the post also resided in Wilton.
Patrol officers responded to the residence of the juvenile male. Contact was made with the juvenile male and his parent at approximately 6:50 a.m., police said.
Officers seized what has been determined to be a BB gun that was depicted in the social media post as well as an airsoft gun from the residence.
The juvenile male and parent have been cooperative with the investigation, according to police, who said that at no time did there appear to be a viable threat to the public or school community.
The Department coordinated efforts with the Wilton Public Schools at the onset of the investigation and continue to communicate. At this time the criminal investigation remains ongoing, but the department stresses that there is no active threat to the public or school community
"The safety of the schools in our Wilton community is always a priority of the department," Captain Robert Cipolla of the Wilton Police Department said. "In light of the investigation, the department has increased its presence and visibility in the school areas."
